Comrod AS, a fully owned subsidiary of Comrod Communication ASA has recently delivered Antenna couplers for 0.7 MNOK to the Dutch Navy. The company has also been awarded an order for development and delivery of antenna couplers to the Kockums shipyard in Sweden for a value of 2.5 MNOK for delivery in 2009.
Comrod Communication Group has for several years worked to extend their product offering from single antennas, masts and power products to system deliveries. The company had a breakthrough in 2003 with successful delivery of antenna control systems to the Swedish FMV for use on board their five Visby frigates. The recent delivery to Dutch Navy and the order from Kockums are both important milestones and valuable new references for the system delivery offering.
The control systems sold to the Dutch Navy are Comrod’s ACS004 coupling systems. This antenna coupler is intended for use with 4 transceivers plus two additional receivers together with one or two common antennas. It is possible to transmit or receive on all channels at the same time. The transmit insertion loss depends on the number of active transmitters. A low noise amplifier is used in the receive path.
The order from Kockums is for the ACS005 coupling system which has higher capacity than the ACS004. The antenna coupler is intended for use with 9 transceivers plus 4 additional receivers together with 3-5 antennas. The system has separate paths for VHF (L-VHF + VHF) and UHF. It is also here possible to transmit or receive on all channels at the same time.
Kockums is a part of Thyssen Krupp Marine systems. Operations are based in Sweden in Malmö, in Muskö and in Karlskrona. The company is known for leading-edge, world-class naval technology - above and below the surface. They design, build and maintain submarines and naval surface vessels that incorporate the most advanced stealth technology.
Comrod’s development and delivery of the antenna control solutions are done in close cooperation with Norbit in Trondheim. Norbit develop, manufacture and deliver several radio and microwave related products for professional customers.
“After years of hard work to develop these advanced new control systems for demanding defence applications, we are very satisfied to have received the first order for delivery to a Navy outside Scandinavia and an order from a prestige customer as Kockumsâ€, says CEO Niklas Hermansson. “We expect follow up orders from these two customers when they have experienced our solutions on board their vessels. These new deliveries will also be valuable references in our efforts to introduce Comrod’s antenna control solutions elsewhere in our global customer networkâ€.
