Comrod Supports Phoenix 1 Launch: Empowering the Next Generation of Aerospace Engineers
This weekend, a remarkable milestone in Norwegian aerospace will take flight from the shores of Rogaland, not far from where Comrod is headquartered.
On June 21, UiS Aerospace, a student-led organization from the University of Stavanger, will conduct a key test launch of Phoenix 1, their first fully student-developed rocket, from Spaceport Utsira just off the south-western Norwegian coast.
Comrod is proud to be among the technology sponsors supporting this ambitious project. Our antenna systems are being used by UiS Aerospace to provide the communication and telemetry backbone for the ground control station, delivering real-time flight data during the mission, as well as data collection for post-flight analysis.
Sørskår, a Comrod company, has provided expertise in the fabrication and welding of aerospace-grade fuel tanks that were critical in the successful engine testing, and will be used in the upcoming sub-orbital and orbital launches.
UiS Aerospace has demonstrated exceptional skill and vision in designing many of the subcomponents used in their program, including propulsion, avionics, structures, and systems integration, mirroring the multidisciplinary collaboration seen in real-world aerospace programs. Their engine program, hot-fire tests, and upcoming vertical launch are all part of a larger effort to push boundaries and train the next generation of aerospace engineering here in Norway.
This weekend’s launch will test key flight systems under live conditions, including staging, propulsion, guidance, and data downlink. It’s a crucial stepping stone toward their long-term goal: launching Phoenix 1 beyond the Kármán line in 2026, the edge of space that begins at 100 km above Earth. That future orbital launch will include a “rideshare” of multiple Cubesat systems for delivery to LEO in addition to other special payloads.
As a technology company deeply rooted in Norwegian engineering and innovation, Comrod is honored to play a role in supporting student-driven spaceflight. We’re excited by the opportunity to help build the link between academic potential and operational excellence.
We believe in Reaching Further through technical partnerships and empowering the bright minds shaping tomorrow’s aerospace landscape.
Congratulations to the entire UiS Aerospace team. We’re looking forward to hearing about the successful test flight and future launch schedules.
